NSW Nature Conservation Council CEO, Jacqui Mumford, will be sitting down for a conversation with Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore to discuss the role councils can play in protecting nature.

This discussion will mark one month before NSW residents head to the polls for council elections.

According to NCC, these elections present a big opportunity to inspire action from candidates across the state on protecting and restoring nature and taking climate action.

The amount of power local councils have over the ecological sustainability of NSW is quite staggering.

Councils can take bold action through development controls, managing vital community assets, resource recovery, and much more.

NCC wants to make the most of this election to encourage local councils to do more.

To help achieve this, this event will also be the launch of NCC’s new policy platform Clean, Green and Local: Priorities for nature and climate in the 2024 local government elections

This platform consists of a wide range of policy commitments that community groups will be able to use to push their candidates to improve their nature and climate credentials.
