Liesl Tesch, Member for Gosford, has called on the Federal Government to bring back JobKeeper payments.

New restrictions for Greater Sydney mean all construction must be paused and non-urgent maintenance, including cleaning services and repair work on residential premises, is to be paused, adding more financial stress for thousands of families across the Central Coast.

Ms Tesch says this was causing financial stress Coast wide.

“Families across the Central Coast are reeling from the new restrictions which have rendered many jobless,” she said.

“I have received so many calls, and since the restrictions began, from people struggling to pay their rent, their mortgage, provide food for their family and keep up with other day to day expenses.

“I want to assure the community that I feel your stress and I am working hard to push this Government to reintroduce JobKeeper.”

According to 2016 Census data almost 25 percent of the Central Coast population works in the construction or maintenance industries.

The latest restrictions introduced by Premier Berejiklian are the strictest in NSW since the pandemic reached Australia in March 2020.

“NSW is reeling from one of the toughest restrictions we have been given to date.

“We need Government support and we need it now, especially here on the Coast where so many workers, whether they be construction or maintenance workers or in the beauty industry, now out of work.

“We have a high representation of people in these sectors and, without JobKeeper, our community is suffering.”

Ms Tesch is urging the community to stand together and united from a distance.

“I know you are all suffering from the restrictions whether it be financially, physically or mentally. We are all drained but together we can get through this.

“I hear you loud and clear and I will keep on representing your voice to this Government to ensure you are given what you and your family deserve.”
