Wyong Drama Group’s current stage adaptation of Harper Lee’s famous novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, is a loyal, moving and relevant transformation of this great work – 5/5 stars!

I have lost count of the times I have read To Kill a Mockingbird. It is one of those novels that manages to keep me captivated, no matter how many times I turn its pages. The Wyong Drama Group’s current season of the stage adaptation at Red Tree Theatre is the first time I had seen the novel as a play. I was excited and perhaps a bit dubious.
The Wyong Drama Group’s production did not disappoint. Mark Calwell’s Atticus Finch was polished and memorable.
The three young actors playing Scout, Jem and Dill each did a remarkable job.
I cannot speak highly enough of this production. The standard, for an amateur theatre company, was extraordinarily high.
The use of an adult Scout or Jean Louise was a clever tool for staying true to the soul of the novel without detracting from the dramatic story telling.
The court scenes were truly enthralling. If I had enough time I would see it again.
Sadly, the content of this play is just as relevant today as it was when penned by Harper Lee in the 1950s.
