This high-octane show includes every song from Green Day’s album American Idiot, as well as several songs from follow-up release, 21st Century Breakdown.
If you love the music of Green Day nd the lyrics of Billie Joe Armstrong, the musical Green Day’s American Idiot has made its way to the Central Coast thanks to youth theatre company Jopuka Productions.
This musical was originally produced by Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Berkeley, CA so it is a long way from home.
This production stars Luca Carter as Johnny and Chris Brame as Tunny.
It has been co-directed by Rosie Ross and Jopuka Director Joshua Maxwell.
The season will run at the Red Tree Theatre, Tuggerah, with performances on Friday 10 March at 8pm, Saturday 11th at 1pm and 8pm, Sunday 12th at 7pm, Friday 17th at 8pm, Saturday 18th at 1pm and 8pm, Sunday 19th at 8pm, Wednesday 22nd at 7:30pm, Friday 24th at 8pm and Saturday 25th at 1pm and 8pm.
This performance includes haze, strobe effects, smoke machine, coarse language, sexual references, strong drug references and adult themes. And why not – let’s throw in some pyrotechnics too.
Johnny, Tunny and Will struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world.
When the three disgruntled men flee the constraints of their hometown for the thrills of city life, their paths are quickly estranged when Tunny enters the armed forces, Will is called back home to attend familial responsibilities, and Johnny’s attention becomes divided by a seductive love interest and a hazardous new friendship.
An energy-fueled rock opera, American Idiot features little dialogue and instead relies on the lyrics from Green Day’s groundbreaking album to execute the story line.
