The Debbie Gaunt Foundation is striving to be the first Australian Mental Health not-for-profit dedicated to helping women through their perimenopause and menopause years.

The Foundation is auspiced by the Central Coast based Iris Foundation.

The Debbie Gaunt Foundation is dedicated to better understanding of the mental health impacts of perimenopause and providing knowledge, resources and support for women and their families.

Founder Grant Gaunt first became aware of the devastating imapcts of perimenopause after losing his wife, Debbie, to suicide in 2019.

Debbie became severely unwell shortly before her death – an episode since partly attributed to the hormonal impacts of perimenopause.

Information remains scattered and medical research into the complications of perimenopause is also surprisingly scant, according to the Foundation.

“Our dream is to change that – to build a hub of knowledge where anyone, anywhere can find the support they deserve,” Craig Gaunt said.

“Our modest but impactful goal of raising $20,000 by 10 October will help us build a trusted platform for women’s mental health and help turn the Debbie Gaunt Foundation into Australia’s first Mental Health not-for-profit specifically for adult women transitioning through their perimenopause and menopause years.

“We made a promise to Debbie and every life that has been lost and to every family that has been torn apart, to every woman who has suffered thinking it was ‘her fault’ and to every child who has watched their mother suffer.

“We promised to do everything in our power to make sure no woman feels alone or that there is no way out of her pain and suffering.”
