We’re concluding our series Saving Our Wetlands by giving readers access to our free e-book.

Thanks to the Local Independent News Association (LINA), earlier this year The Point and sister publication, Central Coast Daily, were able to produce a series of articles about the perilous state of NSW wetlands.
Now we’ve compiled those articles into a free, downloadable e-book for you to read, keep and share.
Some fun facts from those articles: wetlands are the most effective ecosystems for carbon sequestration – that’s what we need to do to save the planet – absord and store as much carbon as possible from the atmosphere to stop the impacts of climate change from becoming catastrophic for all the earth’s creatures.
And who doesn’t love seafood – aquaculture industries including oyster farming – would be in dire trouble without healthy coastal wetlands.
Since writing this series earlier in 2025, we know that wetlands continue to face active and overwhelming threats. Two of the wetlands we focused on, Spring Creek Wetland at Doyalson and Porters Creek Wetland at Warnervale now feature in a NSW Government Strategic Conservation Plan.
That plan, if implemented in its draft form will see land certified as appropriate for development in the catchments of both those wetlands.
Communities living near wetlands across Australia and across the world, need to be their custodians.
Use this e-book to find out the basics and begin your journey as a wetland’s friend.
